Sometimes, life gets too loud — deadlines, traffic, constant phone notifications — and you don’t even realize when you stopped feeling peace. I was exactly at that point when a friend casually said, “Let’s go to Chopta.”
Chopta? I had never even heard of the place. A quick Google search told me it’s called The Mini Switzerland of India. That was it — my backpack came out of the closet the same evening.
The Road to Chopta – A Ride Through Magic

We started from Delhi — took a train to Haridwar, then a short halt at Rishikesh, and finally hit the road towards Chopta by car. And honestly, every turn felt like a new page in nature’s storybook.
I remember this one small tea stall we stopped at on the way. The chai was strong, the bun-maska was buttery, and the old pahadi uncle who served us had the warmest smile. That’s when it struck me — this trip was going to be more than just sightseeing.
First Glimpse of Chopta – Like a Dream
When we reached Chopta, I just stood still for a moment. It felt like I had walked straight into a painting. Tall pine trees all around, the cool mountain breeze gently touching my face, and a peaceful feeling I hadn’t experienced in a very long time.
Early in the morning, as sunlight started touching the Tungnath trail, I found myself standing quietly, without pulling out my phone. Some moments are meant to be felt, not captured.
Tungnath and Chandrashila – Steps That Changed Me

Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world. Trekking up there wasn’t easy, especially with my city-level stamina. But every step was worth it. By the time I reached the temple, I had forgotten all about the tiredness. It was just peace… pure and silent peace.
And then came Chandrashila Top — 360 degrees of raw Himalayan beauty. I could see peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath, and Chaukhamba. And you know what the crazy part was? The clouds were below me.
I wasn’t just looking at the sky — I was in it.
If You’re Planning Chopta, Keep These in Mind:
- Best time to visit: March to May or October to December
- Weather: Can change suddenly — always carry a good jacket
- Trekking shoes: A must if you’re planning to hike
- No mobile network: Consider it a blessing in disguise
- Local food to try: Mandua roti, Aloo ke gutke, and Buransh juice
What Chopta Meant to Me

For me, Chopta wasn’t just a destination… it was a feeling. Jaise zindagi ne gently yaad dilaya ho — ki kabhi kabhi khud ko paane ke liye thoda door jaana padta hai.
Un pahadon ke beech, jahan na WiFi tha, na sheher ka shor… sirf thandi hawa aur khamoshi thi — lekin woh khamoshi bhi kuch keh rahi thi. Ek aisi silence jo loud thi, bina awaz ke.
Whenever life feels too stressful or loud, I just close my eyes and take myself back to that moment. Standing at the top of Chandrashila, clouds below my feet, wind touching my face… and a calmness I still can’t explain.
If you ever feel disconnected or lost in life, plan a trip to Chopta. Maybe, just like me, you’ll return with a clearer mind — and a better version of yourself.
